Prof. Sebastian Sobecki works at the Department of English Language and Culture of the University of Groningen. His publications include The Sea and Medieval English Literature (2008) and, as editor, The Sea and Englishness in the Middle Ages (2011). He is currently editing vols. 1 and 2 of Richard Hakluyt‘s Principal Navigations, Traffiques and Discoveries of the English Nation for OUP’s edition of Hakluyt. His Unwritten Verities: The Making of England’s Vernacular Legal Culture, 1463-1549 is forthcoming from the University of Notre Dame Press. The lecture will reveal the author behind the first English description of Poland-Lithuania and unfold an historical detective story.
